Gus was with us for six of his eight years. During those six years he lived in eight houses - plus an RV. He logged over 18,000 miles in travel, not even including weekend trips. He witnessed the birth of our child.
We said goodbye today, before the pain got too bad. He spent his last moments traipsing through yellow and white wild flowers. At the very end he was outside - in the shade with Scott and I petting him. His head was on my lap. I believe it was peaceful and painless.
I know that, at least in part, I am who and where I am because of my dog. I miss him and I will always love him.
