Christmas Recap (with a Sneak Peek at Some Mighty Fine Woodwork)

This was our second year of spending Christmas at home on Bog Ridge.  There was a lot of lounging, cooking, baking and eating.  Also, lots of time out in the woods.  It was wonderful - I felt like I was at my own personal retreat center.

Here is Jack baking cookies for Santa

And topping off the Christmas tree

Here is Scott carving the turkey on Christmas day

And Jack putting together our very first gingerbread house.

We spent Christmas Eve tracking Santa's progress, eating nachos, and watching  Santa Clause Conquers the Martians - a tradition we started the year Jack was born.

It was wonderful to spend the holiday at home, although we did miss seeing other members of our family.  Our thoughts were especially with my sister, who is spending the holiday season in the hospital.  We also couldn't help thinking about Scott's dad, Grandpa Jack, who passed away in October.

Jack, showing off his missing tooth, with a picture of Grandpa Jack behind him on the piano.

Jack and Scott will continue to spend lots of time together until after the New Year, when our schedules return to normal.  Until then, work on Bog Ridge has slowed down and we are just enjoying the extra time we have together.

(Hey, wait a minute!  Did you see trim on those kitchen window?  Yes you did, and it is gorgeous.  I think you had better scroll back up and take another look at Scott's craftsmanship.)

Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. Jack is just adorable, and he looks like you more and more. Yes, the wood work is lovely. What is Scott up to?
Happy Happy New Year!

Thanks, Stef! Scott has been spending the warmer months on the biological monitoring crew for Superior National Forest and then working the rest of the time on the house. He also spends lots of time with Jack and is my personal chef! Not really, I'm just kidding. But I am pretty lucky because he is an excellent cook and makes most of our meals. Soon he's also going to start adding his own posts to this blog - stay tuned for that because it should be really interesting!
Thanks for checking in and Happy New Year to you and yours, too!

Fun times! My son was home from college and he helped decorate our cookies. When I see a little guy it reminds me how quickly time flies.

Have a very happy 2012!

Thanks, Deborah! Wow - home from college. That's hard to imagine but I am sure it is going to happen to us, too, before we know it.
Happy New Year to you, too.
