Jack and I have just returned from a quick trip to SD, where my dad had heart surgery. We had been waiting - and waiting - for him to speak with the doctor to get an appointment for surgery, but once he did speak to the doctor, the surgery took place only two days later. I was glad we that we live close enough to make it there in time.
Dad is doing amazingly well - even better than the last time, which was 14 years ago. I was very impressed with the hospital staff - not just in terms of professionalism but warmth and kindness, too.
Jack enjoyed the trip. He didn't know what was going on, so it was all fun for him. He always has a blast with Grandma Alice and Aunt Karen. Here he is playing with sidewalk chalk outside my sister's house - she has all sorts of cool big kid toys due to her grandson, DJ.
